# Export, HDR, and Live Photo

### Export a video

On Mac:

1. Select a video and verify its HUD at several timeline positions.
2. Optionally set export start/end points and quality settings.
3. Choose an export folder through the system picker. FlyHUD remembers authorized folders using macOS security-scoped access.
4. Add the current video or a multi-selection to the export queue.
5. Start the queue and monitor progress and results in Task Center.

On iPhone:

1. Preview the draft, check synchronization, and optionally set its start/end using the Video tool.
2. Tap the video-export button. The phone exports one task at a time, up to **1080p**, using **HEVC** and the source frame rate. It preserves the source aspect ratio and does not upscale smaller videos.
3. Keep FlyHUD in the foreground. Moving it to the background cancels the export and saves the draft; starting again renders from the beginning.
4. Save the finished video to Photos or use system sharing to save it to Files.

Exports freeze the current HUD, data links, timing, units, layout, groups, and visual settings. Later edits do not silently change an existing queued Mac job or running iPhone request. Strava drafts on iPhone need network access when preparing export.

### Quality and color

Mac defaults to HEVC, source resolution/frame rate, original-quality priority, source audio, and following source HDR. H.264 is also available. Keep source resolution and frame rate unless delivery requirements call for a change; higher output values cannot recover detail that was not recorded. iPhone has the 1080p HEVC limit described above.

Standard HLG, PQ, and supported Dolby Vision material uses the supported 10-bit HDR pipeline. Recognized Insta360 Active HDR originals may be 8-bit BT.709 and use a dedicated conversion to BT.2020 HLG; they are not simply treated as ordinary HLG input. If Dolby Vision metadata generation fails, FlyHUD retries without it; a reported HDR compatibility failure can trigger a retry in the source color space with the HUD retained. Unsupported Log or proprietary camera modes are not guaranteed to receive this conversion. Export a short sample before a long final render and check it in a suitable player/display.

### Live Photo

Choose a frame and create a Live Photo from that frame and up to the following five seconds. The HUD and data configuration are frozen, with an HEIC cover and paired HEVC video saved to Photos. Choose an earlier frame if too little video remains.

Mac requires Photos permission. iPhone requests permission to add to Photos rather than full-library reading; moving to the background cancels Live Photo creation, so try again in the foreground.

### File access

The Mac App Store build runs in App Sandbox. Select your export folder through the system picker; if an authorization becomes unavailable after restart, select the folder again. Keep original Mac video and activity files in place until export is complete.

iPhone copies selected input files into its own draft storage and writes exports inside its container before saving/sharing. Deleting a draft removes its app-owned copies and temporary exports, not your original media or completed files already saved to Photos or Files.
